With many trying to conserve their waste, I thought this handmade product, the Savvy Snack Bag, was a great idea. I cannot tell you how many plastic sandwich bags we go through a month. What a waste.

Martha has a craft of the day. With fall coming up I thought these fall craft bag ideas would be a great start for gift giving.

Moms are geniuses. Really. And I enjoy supporting them. No matter how hard I try to keep our child's things looking nice and new, it's usually bound to be spit up on, rolled in dirt or torn apart. I love this idea of a nice way to cover your baby carrier. And oh so chic too!

Lady Pfaff meet Viking

Did I mention before how much I like Craigslist? People trying to get rid of "their" junk to be someone else's (mine) treasure. I had been searching for a serger. A nice serger for a really wonderful price. I couldn't believe it when I found one I was interested in but it was still priced for more than I was willing to pay. The lady was willing to give it to me for what I thought was next to nothing. I think I might have used the pity me card...I can't remember! She had hardly used it (looks brand new) and just wanted someone else to get the benefit of it instead of it collecting dust at her home.

Anywho, I'm now the proud owner of a Huskylock 936. I tried to read reviews on it before I purchased and it seemed to pass with flying colors. If you know otherwise, don't tell me. I've been told numerous times I need to take lessons to really learn how to use it so I guess that's my next assignment. Oh yeah, and to get really long tweezers to help with the headache of threading it.

***Oh, and an update on how Noah did in the nursery while I went to MOPS Thursday. Let's just say I made it through one out of the two hours before getting called to come get him. He did well. It was poor timing as it landed smack in the middle of his nap time. We'll keep at it though.

An update

So no new photos to put up. I'm really just too lazy to actually connect the camera to do it. It feels like I've been running around all day. At this moment, I am sitting on the couch resting while I have a happily entertained child watching Baby Einstein and chewing on the DVD package. No, he should not be doing this. Yes, I will go get it from him. And yet I argue with myself. Will it really hurt him? He is quiet right now. Then that little voice in my head comes out, a good mom would go and get it. Okay, okay. So now I'm off to go and take the package out of his little hands (and mouth).

Before I do, an update from his 9 month check up. Not sure why they put the paper on the exam table where he sits. It just gets ripped up and ends up in his mouth where I then have to wrestle with him to get it back out (all while trying to talk to the doctor as if nothing unusual is going on).

Noah is doing great! His iron test came back normal. He is 19.12 lbs and 27.5 inches long. Little baby is slowly becoming a little boy...sigh.

Change

Things are a changin' around here. Our little stinker is 9 months old and has...well...just a bit more hair! Technically I should have posted this two days ago but that seems to be how things are going for me lately. I think I'll catch up with life in the near future. Nine months has flown by and it's been such a joy to get to know our little boy better and see tidbits of who he is going to be. He is so sweet and yet I see that little mischievous side come out in him. He gets this grin when you've caught him doing something that he knows he shouldn't really be doing. You know...that smile that melts your heart despite what he is doing wrong.

Fall is coming. I feel it. I even got the latest Pottery Barn fall catalog to prove it! With the weather cooling down we're looking forward to camping trips coming up and more activities outside. I can tell school has started again as well since our calendars are starting to fill up more with Bible studies, small group, schooling for Lucas and get togethers. I enjoy the relaxation of summer but I also love the routine that fall brings.

I think fall is often a time of reflection for me as well. A time to evaluate life and how we're living it, how we want to change it and goals for the rest of the year. Sounds a little like New Years for some people but the change in seasons really gets me going. I love change.

Growing up

So for the past few days I've been studying these two books by Wendy. I really am loving them and highly recommend them for anyone wanting to learn to sew clothes. Or sew in general. I've also been searching for a used, but nice, serger on Craigslist. To get a good one they're so darn expensive so I'm hoping for the hookup at some point. Wish me luck! Craigslist has become my new best friend.

No, my baby is not going to school...but he will be off to the nursery while I attend MOPS every other week at our church. I'm very excited about going this year but can you tell I'm a first-time mother? I think I have the mindset that no one can take care of my child better than me. While I still believe that is true, I do realize others can still love on him. Thursday will be his first time being in any type of childcare. I know he'll do fine.

I wanted to get a little backpack for him so I could just leave the items he might need i.e. diapers and such. Normally I try to be very practical about what we buy for Noah. I always try to purchase items that we can use again for the next child (probably the reason we have many gender neutral pajamas for our little one)! But I had to break down and get his little backpack monogrammed. Definitely no question who it belongs to now!

Marking the end of summer

Since I feel we can't really tell the difference between seasons here according to the weather I have to go by the calendar and its hit September 1st...and time to decorate for fall! This week I'm going to break out the browns, dark greens, oranges and yellows to fill the home. There is just something so romantic to me about fall. I love the thought of curling up under a crocheted blanket to watch a movie with a warm drink in hand...only this year we'll be adding a cuddly little boy to the mix.

For most, the end of summer means winding down the evening walks outside and putting away the picnic blanket until next May. But for us, it means completely the opposite and I'm so looking forward to heading to the park during the day, having friends over for dinners outside and not sweating every time I have to leave my air conditioned home or car.

In the midst of my fall excitement I'm doing a little house cleaning and preparing to consign some baby items at our local mommies sale. I'm hoping to earn some money toward getting Noah what every child needs, a Radio Flyer wagon, just in time for fall! Perhaps an early birthday present for him?

And because every post needs some photos...here you go! One of these days I'll actually be in one to prove I exist.

Nice start to the week

We had a nice Labor Day weekend just lounging around and enjoying some family time. Now it's back to our weekly routine and chores...ugh. Can't we just have one more day off???
