Our sweet baby boy

Well he's here! Noah David Johnson. He arrived on Friday, Dec. 14 at 11:52a.m. (9 days early). My delivery story is rather long so I won't write it all here but will tell you individually if you want. After complications I ended up having to have a c-section. Once Noah arrived I had more complications and was in surgery for two more hours while the doctors worked on me.

Noah weighed 7lbs 12.5 oz, 20 inches long and is beautiful! He has a very sweet temperment. I think the Lord let me have such a good baby to give me a chance to recover from the surgery. Nursing has gone extremely well also. We think we've even got him on a 3-hour schedule already, hooray!

Progress being made

One of the neatest things about being pregnant during Christmas time is hearing the story of Jesus' birth and just envisioning what Mary must have gone through. I couldn't imagine Lucas telling me right now that I am going to need to ride a donkey just when I'm close to giving birth!

I had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday and I'm now 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. I realize that doesn't tell me much about when this baby will be arriving but it's nice to know that there is progress being made!

We've been keeping pretty busy lately with Christmas parties, nesting and just lots of random things. Lucas surprised me and took work off on Wednesday so we could just spend the day together. It made me even more excited for the time he'll have off with our family after the baby arrives. My mom flies into Phoenix this Saturday and will be here for the next three weeks! I'm looking forward to her being here and my dad coming over Christmas.

Hopefully the next time I post it will mean a baby has arrived! We can't wait to make that big announcement.

Happy belated Thanksgiving!

Well it's been almost a month since our last blog so I figured it was time to write. We've been keeping busy for the past month. A group of about 16 ladies that I get together with once a month threw me a surprise baby shower at the beginning of November which was a lot of fun. It's hard to believe Thanksgiving has come and gone and soon baby Johnson will be here! We had so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. The Lord has definitely blessed us with so much and we are so thankful for the support of our friends and family.

Even though we're just approaching December our weekends are already getting filled up with Christmas activities. I'm hoping that will definitely make the time go faster! Our house is all decorated and we're definitely getting into the Christmas spirit. It's finally cooling off here, I think this week has been in the low 70's! I'm refusing to turn on the heat just yet, however, I do seem to be carrying around my own little portable heater already.

We've had the nursery done for a little while (except for changing out some photos in frames) but I've failed to remember to take photos to post so I've finally done that for those who have asked. Sorry the photos are a little dark. We've got everything ready...all we need now is our sweet baby.

My next doctor's appointment is on Tuesday. We'll find out whether I've progressed at all. I can already tell the baby has dropped. Lucas noticed it too. I'm going to will this baby out early so we're able to spend Christmas as a family!

Our "baby"moon

We wanted to get one last getaway in just Lucas and I before the baby comes so we headed to Greer, AZ (greerlodgeaz.com) for a little R&R. It was so pretty there and the weather was wonderful. We spent a lot of time just walking around (which was really good for me), fly fishing, playing Scrabble and just being. It was cool at night so we were able to have a fire every night we were there. That's so unusual here for us in Arizona so we had to take advantage of it. It was hard to come back!

We've been having fun!

We've had such a busy, and fun two weeks! A good friend of mine threw me a baby shower so we celebrated our coming arrival two Saturdays ago with some close friends (and a few there in spirit). I felt so special and blessed to have so many people love our child already.
Then my work surprised me during my last week of work with a mini shower as well. What fun! Then it was off to my parents house for a week visit. We had such a good time and it was hard to say good-bye. I just love being at their house. It's so relaxing.





One of the games we played was guessing what type of melted candy bar was in the diaper. Some were daring enough to taste the melted mess. If only diapers really smelled and tasted so good!


While I was gone, our friend Mike came to visit and keep Lucas company. They went backpacking and did various things around our area. They also were kind enough to paint the baby's room while I was away. (Thanks Mike for letting us put you to work. We'll have a longer list for next time!)

Other woman: When are you due?
Me: Dec. 23
Other woman: Oh, you still have awhile... (looking at my big belly)
Me: Yep. (thanks for reminding me. I was just thinking I was well over halfway there)

27 weeks

Well, last week I had my doctor's appointment and all looks well. I also had to do the fun glucose screening test where they make you drink this sugary drink in five minutes. I was so thankful to get it down...Lucas said I made it in three minutes! The doctor measured my uterus and it looks like I'm right on schedule.

We've been keeping busy with church activities and seeing friends. I have 2.5 weeks left of work. It's hard to believe it's coming so soon...yet I'm definitely counting down the days. Then it's off to my parents house for a week. I'll have to post picture updates soon.

A friend of mine, who is also pregnant, and I decided to start making a list of all of the things we're looking forward to doing again once we're not pregnant.

Tie my own shoe laces
Eat cold deli meat sandwiches
Eat soft cheeses
Sleep on my stomach
See all of my body parts without needing a mirror (sad, but true)
Be able to sit up on my own
Be able to wear my normal clothes
Paint my own toe nails
Actually suck in if I need to fit through a tight space
Sit in a hot tub
Crack my back

21 weeks

Just over halfway there! I seemed to have had a growth spurt the past two weeks and my stomach now gets places before I do. I also manage to spill on myself a lot more. After I took this picture I looked at it and thought, is that really how big I am? Oh well, what can you do...

Happy Birthday to Lucas!

This past Saturday we celebrated Lucas turning 28 years old! I wanted to do something different so for dinner we headed to Shabu Fondue, a fondue restaurant in Chandler. So good! It took us 2.5 hours to get through all of the courses but waiting for dessert was definitely worth it. All of those strawberries, cherries, smores, bananas and cheesecake all to dip into the chocolate fondue. Am I making your mouth water? We had a lot of fun and we definitely know we're old as that was the latest we've stayed out in a long time. Happy Birthday Lucas! I love you!

Then my poor husband had to start painting the dresser for the baby's room on Sunday all by himself. I wanted desperately to help but couldn't because of the fumes. We already had a dresser that we thought we could reuse instead of having to buy one for the baby's room. We're on two coats of paint so far and one more to go!

Baby weekend

After the ultrasound on Friday we decided to make this weekend baby weekend. We ended up going to register, which had both of ours eyes glossed over after awhile. It was fun though and created a nice checklist for us to see the things that we need to get and the things that are more luxury items that we'd like. Saturday Lucas put together the crib and changing table. (Thanks Mom and Dad!) They're not arranged in the room yet but I wanted to get the crib put together so I could take measurements and begin to order fabric to make the baby bedding.

And now Monday is coming and it's back to work. Sigh.

No, that isn't what you think it is.


It's a surprise! We had our ultrasound done today and it was so much fun! We were so excited and amazed to see our baby. They even surprised us and did a 4D scan (i.e. our alien baby) and gave us a DVD to take home. The baby had its' legs together and feet all tucked under so I'm not sure if we'd have been able to tell the gender even if we had wanted to know. It was hard to get a good picture of the face as the lady said it was buried in my stomach and didn't want to show it. Praise the Lord that everything looked great and we're set for a Dec. 23 due date.

Instruction manuals?

I was able to get this shot of the trouble Bailey was trying to get into this weekend. For some reason anything low that he can walk into, he does. We had an empty cube in our bookshelf that he has been walking into and checking out.


This weekend I received my "instruction manual" books that I had ordered. Looks like a lot to read! I laughed at the one titled, "No fear guide to first-time parenting." The book is thick and the type is VERY small. I think I'm fearing reading the No fear guide.

Making space

So we spent the majority of last weekend rearranging rooms in our house to make space for the baby, with a small break to celebrate Hannah's one year birthday with some friends of ours. I told Lucas our house looks like we just moved in with furniture and things everywhere. We've made progress though and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'll definitely have to take photos when we're all done.

We also scored a great deal on a like-new exersaucer from a couple for $35, which new is $80! I was so thrilled to bring it home...although now it just sits there and collects dust. Bailey had to sniff it for quite awhile until he was okay that this new thing was in our home. Boy is he in for a shock when the baby comes!

16 1/2 week visit

I had a doctor's visit today and got to hear the heartbeat again. It was so strong and just makes Lucas and I smile everytime knowing our little one is in there. The baby has decided to camp out at the top part of my uterus for now. We were given paperwork to take home with us to start filling out for the hospital, etc. as the doctor said in the next month we'll need to be figuring some of those details out and getting organized. Time is flying by!

On the news they said we might get some relief tonight from the over 110 degree temperatures. I'm so looking forward to that if it's true. This has been the hottest summer here for us yet. We've become nocturnal on the weekends when we run our errands. I guess it helps us to get a lot done inside the house during the day though.

I'd like to say the shadow on the photo is what makes me look larger but I'm not sure that is the case...
